CASPER AND THE COOKIES - OH!
CD review by Night Watchman

Casper and the Cookies have an album out called Oh!, and I don't know who it was made for. It's one of those crap bands that only form in college towns, playing Sixties folk in a Grateful Dead sort of way. It's like if the Dead Milkmen or the Violent Femmes made a completely unfunny album. Casper and the Cookies are winking at you, saying, "I'm so clever without ever making you crack a smile."

Oh! is filled with the kind of lyrics that only a hippie could enjoy, but I actually think that hippies have too much taste to fall for this crap. There are lyrical gems like, "I got ants in my pants / And it makes me want to dance," and, "A goat is in the rain forest / And a leopard's eating cake / Thought he was a penguin / But he was a snake." (From "Take It Away, Kathy" and "Sneaky Snake", respectively.) This is the kind of band that makes you leave a club.

Please don't get me started on the cover art for this piece of crap. To those good bands that I have chastised in the past for having bad artwork, I only did so because the music inside was worth hearing and I didn't want anyone to not pick up the discs because the covers were bad. In the case of Casper and the Cookies, the crappy artwork is a fair representation of what you're getting music-wise, as well.

So, Casper, I won't tell you that you shouldn't get four-year-olds to do your album covers, because anyone who buys this tripe shit after seeing this horrible cover deserves the music inside it.
