CHRASH - THE PARTY
cd review by monkeybe

The first image you see of Chrash frontman Chris Bernat is of him yelling into the mic while manhandling a ten-inch dildo in his left hand. After a little reading, I find out it's a prop microphone that works its way into the live shows. I guess these guys are supposed to be really fun and entertaining live.

Chrash has been compared to Mercury Rev, Luna, and The Kinks with Vic Chesnutt, to name a few. I think it sounds kind of like a 60s/70s-influenced Duncan Sheik, mixed with a stripped down R.E.M., crossed with one of those guys that sings poppy folksongs to young children at the public library for a living. But, somehow, it works.

Overall, the album isn't bad. If anything, the production is a little weak. Musically, it is very competent, with some nice guitar and keyboard work going on.

CHRASH HERE.
